Find Your Tribe in the Tank: Why COAST Fish Club is the Heartbeat of the SoCal Hobby

Having people to bounce ideas off of, trade hard to find mosses with, or just talk shop. C.O.A.S.T. Turns a solo hobby into something truly special. That’s exactly what the C.O.A.S.T. Fish Club is all about.

If you haven’t swung by one of our monthly meetings or major events yet, you’re missing out on the absolute best energy in the Southern California freshwater scene. We take all the excitement of high-level fish keeping and pair it with a genuine, welcoming community where hobbyists of every level can thrive together.

Recently, we’ve been keeping busy bringing that energy all over SoCal! Fresh off our appearance at the LA Pet Fair's Aquarium Super Show at the Pomona Fairplex, it was incredible connecting with so many passionate hobbyists, showing off amazing aquatic setups, and introducing new faces to the C.O.A.S.T. family.

Every spring, we host AquaSwap, which has grown into one of the region's absolute premier aquarium expo. Picture hundreds of local hobbyists and LFS vendors gathering under one roof to buy, sell, and trade rare fish strains, high-end tank equipment, and pristine aquatic plants, all while live podcasts roll in the background.

Then in the fall, we take things outside for Medaka Fest over at Seaside Aquatics in Anaheim, a pond centric celebration featuring gorgeous goldfish, rare koi, exclusive medaka breeders, and a friendly "Best in Show" competition that brings out some of the most impressive rice fish you'll ever see in person.

On top of our big seasonal expos and our intense Mega Auctions, our regular monthly meetings at the Fountain Valley Senior Center are where the real magic happens. It’s where you get to pull up a chair, grab a raffle ticket, check out the mini-swaps, and learn directly from icons in the industry.

We’ve had Joey Mullen, "The King of DIY" himself, drop in for exclusive, off-the-record presentations about why local fish clubs are the true lifeblood of this hobby, giving us an insider peak at his massive home aquarium gallery. Local favorite Nolan Peralta has taken the stage to map out his raw, inspiring journey from everyday hobbyist to local fish store owner. We've also had aquascaping legends like Mark Chen and Logan Randall hanging out at AquaSwap, breaking down world-class aquarium layout techniques, offering pro design tips, and signing exclusive gear for our members.

At the end of the day, fish keeping might start as an individual obsession in your living room, but through C.O.A.S.T., it becomes a home. A massive thank you goes out to every speaker, event organizer, and member who brings their energy and knowledge to this community month after month.
